Ajyal Percussion ensemble

I currently perform with the Ajyal Percussion Ensemble, a project headed by Faisal Zedan whose artistic vision and creativity guide the group. Through his complex and syncopated compositions we explore the variety of feels and textures embedded in Arabic percussion. This group is both traditional and contemporary, drawing on the long historical trajectory of Arabic drumming while allowing for explorations into the innovative mind of master percussionist Faisal Zedan

I have had the honor and pleasure of studying Middle Eastern percussion with Faisal Zedan over the past few years. I am at the beginning of this exploration and am very excited to be walking this path.

In 2017 Faisal and I received a Master/Apprentice Contract from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts. Over the course of the year I learned from him percussion and history of the Arab and Jewish Arab music and musicians of the middle east. We presented our work at a performance fundraiser for the Middle East Children’s Alliance. This is a dialogue that we continue to develop as teacher and student.
